Could your organisation benefit from an extra set of hands to start, continue, or finish a project? Then don't miss the SIGNAL Speed Networking event, Thursday 25 June, 2:30pm - 4pm - a great opportunity to meet the diverse and talented SHIFT cohort, and see if there is a match to host one of our students for a 200-hour, non-paid industry placement.
SIGNAL Speed Networking events are one way we continue to build strong connections and networks between students and the tech industry. Pairing a SHIFT student with a company-based project gives the student over 200 hours of real-world tech experience, whilst adding value to your business.
Businesses have always been impressed with the quality and wide-ranging skills our students can bring to the table. They gain value from having unpaid projects completed and the energy, fresh ideas and excitement these students bring.
Previous students have commented on how valuable this on-the-job learning is for skills development, as well as the valuable networking with tech professionals.
Types of projects students typically undertake are in the field of business analysis, software and product testing, software development, web development, mobile app development, user experience, technical writing and project management.
Other projects are dependent on the skills and experience of the student as well as the needs of the company providing the project.
The latest SHIFT cohort come from a variety of degree types and career backgrounds, such as:
- Computer Science & IT
- Science & Chemistry
- Honours degree in Civil & Mechanical Engineering
- Dip. Film & TV Production
- Doctorate Classics
- Plant & Microbial Sciences
- Economics & Management
- Finance
- System Network Management
Following the meetings, students will continue discussions with companies and agree to a project for next semester. Industry Projects are completed part-time in the second semester of the SHIFT programme.
Come along and meet our students, get to know them and tell them about your organisation and the exciting work you do!
