Alister Butterfield is completing his Industry Experience at AbacusBio, the leading Dunedin-based agribusiness consulting firm that bridges science and business. Working to improve the current cloud-based staff tracking app under the mentorship of IT expert and AbacusBio consultant, Mark Teviotdale, Alister has been using many of the skills covered in the SHIFT programme and has "enjoyed bringing it all together on a real-world product. "
The next stage of the Industry Experience involves 400 hours paid work where Alister will be working alongside another recent graduate intern to add value to one of the many technology-based tools that AbacusBio has developed for its clients.
Isaac Burwell's background in Geology and the mining industry has been invaluable during his time so far at Stantec NZ Ltd, a global company providing municipal, industrial, governmental and private sector clients with a complete range of tailored services and products. Isaac has been working with the 'Info to Insight' team on ways to better present data gained via drone aerial surveillance of coastal sites around Otago. Isaac has enjoyed the opportunity to work alongside industry experts and has found the work "very interesting and challenging". Both Isaac and his mentor Dr Selwyn McCracken are looking forward to having Isaac around full-time to make further progress on this project that will enhance the quality of the data presentation to roading engineers for future projects.
The SHIFT students will be making their final presentations to their mentors and the SHIFT teaching staff next week. We look forward to hearing the details and seeing the results of their project work.
