Shift SHIFT Studio Projects

Call for 2019 SHIFT Studio Projects in Dunedin - Submit your idea NOW!

Monday March 18, 2019

The 2019 SHIFT cohort is quickly upskilling with relevant tech skills that could help your organisation.  This year's students are as diverse as ever, bringing with them a wide range of personal and professional experiences.   Skills range from accounting and corporate business expertise, to sound engineering, neuroscience, linguistics, regional traffic planning, biochemistry and more.   The students work on three different projects for five weeks each, between late April and August.

Last year, some projects included developing a three dimensional visual display widget,  a wayfinding app,  designing a user-friendly data dashboard,  an event registration website,  data wrangling and research into Internet of Things platforms.

If your organisation is based in Dunedin and could benefit from a small team of three to five  talented students working on a project for you, then we encourage you to submit your idea.  The investment from one of your team is less than eight hours,  over five weeks as the project sponsor.

To submit your idea, just send us a one or two paragraph project description.  If the project is chosen, you will need to be available for a one hour briefing session with the project team, four one hour weekly meetings with the students, (and be available to answer email queries), and attend the final presentation five weeks later.

In return,  you will get to meet and work with some of our great students, and have some work moved forward for your organisation.

Studio projects build skills and capabilities, expose students to new areas of tech, and give them a chance to research and implement a range of tech solutions. Each student will complete three studio projects during the year, so if you have more than one idea you'd like help with, then please submit them all.

To express your interest, or to find out more about how to submit a SHIFT Studio Project idea, please contact stephen@signal.ac.nz.  The first projects will kick off in early May, so get in quickly to have yours considered.
