Student presentations impress tech specialists

Monday October 26, 2020

Boosting student engagement through project-based learning is where tech education really thrives. SIGNAL embraces the 'learning by doing' practical method, which engages students in complex, real-world tasks such as developing a full-stack tech product enabling them to acquire new knowledge and career-enhancing skills that make a difference.

Co-working in our Christchurch studio this semester is Industry Consultant, Rod Millynn who specialises in Business Strategy and Execution in start-ups. Rod has most recently been working with Hivemind and

Rod was impressed with the students work and final presentations, creating a digital solution to hardware device tracking in business:

"Device allocation and returns can be problematic, however the presentations by the 2020 cohort were impressive in the depth of their consideration, aesthetic and ease-of-use. Especially completing them in such a short time frame!"

The SHIFT cohort are now into Studio Project Two, and are working with Plant & Food Research and a social enterprise working in the micro-credential space. These real-world projects are the perfect stepping stone into their Industry Placement, starting in March 2021.

As part of this process, on Thursday 5th November, the students will be participating in the Industry Speed Networking event, which will help introduce them to a potential host for their 200-hour industry project.  You are welcome to register and attend if you could possibly host a SHIFT intern in early 2021.

Industry Speed Networking - Meet the July 2020 Christchurch SHIFT Cohort

Our SHIFT students are talented, mature and professional and are dedicated to pursuing a rewarding career in tech, and adding value to your business. Please get in touch if you are looking to start/research/complete/test or get some fresh eyes on a project, or even better if you're looking to hire, this is a proven method and we have had great results!

"I work with several start-ups throughout Christchurch and every time the SHIFT team have been mentioned, it has always been about how great it is to get people straight out of training that have a practical capability. They're able to hit-the-ground-running and add value from day one!" - Rod Millynn
