VR Flights with SIGNAL

Monday October 16, 2017

On October 14, SIGNAL ICT Grad School had the pleasure of being involved with the 2017 Vogel Street Party.  The Vogel Street Party is a community celebration, and this year’s theme of ‘Ideas and Incubation’ aimed to recognise Dunedin as an incubator city where people come to learn, create, test and grow new ideas.

SIGNAL offered a virtual reality interactive flight over Dunedin. By combining the technology of Google Earth and Oculus Rift, visitors experienced a bird’s eye view of Dunedin, and could drop down for street view, along with the opportunity to travel abroad. People of all ages had fun finding their houses, exploring new beaches and visiting overseas destinations such as Florence and Hawaii.

Over 120 visitors were able to experience this developing Virtual Reality technology,  with many conversations about opportunities within NZ's fast growing tech sector, and questions about how to SHIFT to a career within the tech sector.  To find out more go to:  www.signal.ac.nz/shift.
