SHIFT programme transitions to tertiary partners in 2021

Tuesday September 22, 2020

SIGNAL’s SHIFT programme was created to help you explore, experience and embrace increased employment opportunities, adding to your qualifications and expanding your earning potential in this vibrant, fast-paced sector.

In 2021, the SHIFT programme will look a little different. In setting out the 2020 Budget, Government announced that funding for the ICT Graduate Schools would end when the current funding agreements ended at the end of 2020. This means that the SIGNAL Collaboration will formally end then.

However, the SIGNAL partners will continue work in this space, with SHIFT transitioning across to the University of Otago in Dunedin, and Lincoln University and Ara Institute of Canterbury in Christchurch.

What will SHIFT look like in 2021?

Otago, Lincoln and Ara will continue the success of SHIFT, working with you to create a customised pathway that will help you achieve your career goal. Each will deliver tech learning with the following industry-focused one-year programmes, that not only boosts your skills, but gives you practical industry experience and an industry network to help you move into tech:

University of Otago:

Lincoln University:

Ara Institute of Canterbury:

Quick. Smart. Relevant.

All three of these innovative industry-driven programmes are designed for those who have not studied technology before and may not have a tech background and open to degree holders in any discipline. If you already have a tech related degree, you can expand your expertise by focusing on a new area and gaining valuable industry skills and connections.

A unique learning experience.

Using immersive studio-based learning and real-world industry experience, these programmes produce graduates with a solid base of core tech skills, as well as the communication and collaborative skills required in the tech industry. They will enable you to meet and work with local tech employers, complete group projects with tech mentors, and also gain experience via placements within industry.
