Connecting companies with SHIFT students at Speed Networking event

Thursday December 5, 2019

Last month SIGNAL hosted nine local tech companies in our new Christchurch studio for speed meetings with SHIFT students. The networking event, held on November 26, was another great opportunity to meet our diverse and dedicated SHIFT cohort.

Welcoming tech businesses to SIGNAL studio to engage with students.

As part of the SHIFT programme, students gain valuable experience through a 200-hour industry placement with a tech business.

Previous students have commented on how valuable this on-the-job learning is for skills development, as well as the valuable networking with tech professionals.

These companies get value from having unpaid projects completed and the energy, fresh ideas and excitement these students bring.

SHIFT Speed Networking in action. Students have five minutes to make an impression with local tech businesses.

Following these meetings, students will continue discussions with companies and agree to a project for next semester.

Types of projects students typically undertake are in the field of business analysis, software and product testing, software development, web development, mobile app development, user experience, technical writing and project management.

Other projects are dependent on the skills and experience of the student, as well as the needs of the company providing the project.

We would like to thank those who attended our Christchurch SHIFT 2019 Speed Networking event, supporting new talent and the Canterbury tech industry, by helping develop new tech professionals:

If you're keen to learn more about hosting one of our talented students for a 200-hour, non-paid industry placement, please contact Lenore Wright at chch@signal.ac.nz or 027 563 9836.

We wish all parties future success in the upcoming projects.
