Xtend Professional development

SIGNAL - Your partner in capability growth

Monday January 28, 2019

The tech industry is fast-moving and challenging, and needs people who can think critically and stay ahead of the game.  SIGNAL's innovative Xtend programme is a work-based masters degree designed for tech professionals who wish to grow as leaders.... of people,  technology, thought or process.  Xtend allows you to use your experiences from your professional life as rich learning material, and to help you engage in rigorous analysis, problem definition and problem solving, that adds real and measurable value to your organisation.

Xtend allows you to identify a challenge or goal in your workplace, research and define the issue, develop an approach for resolving it, and to implement processes to achieve the desired outcomes.   This is relevant, real-life learning in work, at work and for work.

Xtend graduates have all spoken about the transformational power of the Xtend journey, on both a personal and a professional level.

Nadia Thorne, Co-head of Studio at Christchurch game, VR and app design  company Cerebral Fix completed Xtend last year. "This programme has taught me how to learn in an arena where a textbook can't give you the answers.  It has given me the tools to take the next step in my career."

Gwyn Edwards, CTO of Cerebral Fix agrees that Nadia's Xtend experience has had a remarkable impact upon their organisation, and has subsequently sponsored three more of the Cerebral Fix team into the programme.  "[Xtend is] the future of organisational development; targeted learning that meets the organisation's needs. "

MTF Finance has also sponsored more than one staff member into Xtend, with both Mark Oliver and Les Miskin graduating late last year, alongside Jamie Vaughan, IT Manager at Gallaway Cook Allan Lawyers.   The ability to complete a Masters of Professional Practice (awarded by Otago Polytechnic) while working has really increased the capability of the learners, and had measurable positive effects in their workplace, also adding value to their employer and team.
