Felicia is a member of the July 2017 cohort at SIGNAL Christchurch, and has already achieved excellent grades in her course work and during the team projects during the first semester of the Shift programme. Felicia’s background as an Air Traffic Controller in the Philippines helped her to develop strong leadership and teamwork skills while giving her a taste for the tech sector. Her decision to retrain after moving to NZ and looking after her family for nine years was a big step, and SIGNAL’s Shift programme has made a new career in tech a possibility.
The Synapsys Christmas Gift is awarded in lieu of corporate gifts by Synapsys NZ Ltd, a Christchurch based Learning and Knowledge Solutions Provider, to a tech student who shows exceptional ability and dedication.
Felicia was over the moon when she was announced as the winner. "Being the recipient of the Synapsys Christmas gift came as a big surprise. For the first time in ten years, I can treat my family for Christmas. I am humbled and honoured to be recognised by SIGNAL and Synapsys for my efforts. Thank you for reminding me that hard work still pays off.”
In the six months she has been on the Shift programme, Felicia has taken full advantage of networking and industry connections within the Christchurch tech sector; attending the Canterbury Tech summit, the Canterbury Start-Up Expo and other workshops and events to help in her plans for the future. “Part of the money I received will be a seed fund for my social enterprise idea called The ROCK project. ROCK stands for Ripple of Constant Kindness and, aptly enough, that ripple from Synapsys will flow on.”
Huge thanks to Phil Garing and the team at Synapsys NZ Ltd for making the award available in order to encourage new tech talent in the Christchurch area.
