Students expand industry contacts through Speed Networking Event

Monday July 13, 2020

Last month SIGNAL hosted 13 local companies in the Christchurch studio for speed meetings with SHIFT students. During industry projects, as part of the SHIFT programme, students gain valuable experience through a 200-hour industry placement with a tech business.

"The real GOLD in tech education is the ‘learning by doing’ project work and industry internship component, it really solidifies student skills knowledge base and enhances confidence," says Lenore, SIGNAL's Client Engagement.

The businesses were very impressed with the quality of the cohort and the wide-ranging skills they can bring to the table. Over the semester break the cohort have been busy meeting with potential host organisations to see if there is a good fit. The students were also very impressed with the variety of industry projects and scope of opportunities on offer.

Projects can include work within the fields of business analysis, software and product testing, software development, web development, mobile app development, user experience, technical writing and project management.

Other projects are dependent on the skills and experience of the student, as well as the needs of the company providing the project.

We would like to thank the following businesses who are supporting new talent within the Canterbury tech sector, by hosting SHIFT students and helping develop new tech professionals:

In November 2020 a new SHIFT cohort will be looking for Industry Projects. If this is of interest to your organisation, or you would like more information please get in contact with Lenore Wright at or 0800 990 024 to learn more about hosting one of our talented students for a 200-hour, industry project.

We wish all parties great success in the upcoming projects.
