From humble beginnings in 1960 as the "Data Processing and Computer Society", IT Professionals NZ (Te Pou Hangarau Ngaio) has seen vast changes in technology, and huge growth in Aotearoa's presence on the world stage as an innovative tech community.
Last Thursday night over 40 members celebrated 60 years of IT Professionals NZ in Dunedin with a special black tie cocktail event, acknowledging those who have played a part in the growth of IT in the region over the last six decades.
The event was MC'd by ITP Fellow Keith Lightfoot, and included introductions from ITP CEO Paul Matthews and special guest speaker, 2018 TIME Magazine's Next Generation Leader, Rasha Abu-Safieh.
Special guest check-ins also included Dunedin Mayor, Aaron Hawkins and Former Member of Parliament, Dunedin South, Clare Curran.
ITP have consistently been the voice of NZ's tech profession to Government and others, while helping develop its members, set industry standards and recognise those who aspire to excellence.
A special tribute and standing ovation was given to Mr Bruce McMillan in recognition for his dedication and contribution to IT in New Zealand, particularly in Dunedin.
IT Professionals NZ wish to thank the Dunedin ITP branch and all those who attended to make for such a successful 60th Anniversary celebration. A special thanks go to the event hosts, Gallaway Cook Allan Lawyers and SIGNAL ICT Grad School.
"The event was a resounding success, a perfect match for our branch and enjoyed by many." - ITP Deputy President, Anthony Dowling
